The World of Literature salutes Mandip and CurtCole!

Three cheers for CurtCole and Mandip!

I have now received my first (and possibly last) journalistic by-line in yesterday’s Guardian newspaper. My editor failed to tell me the publishing date had been brought forward but fortunately a friend let me know. At least you can get to see the article online and I will get my friends to let me have a paper copy.

A special thanks to Curt Cole and Mandip who between them finally persuaded me to start a blog, which in turn gave me the courage to send a piece from this blog on spec to the Guardian. (The original article first apapeared on this blog on 24th October 2009). I promise to name-check them both when I receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. The Guardian

  1. Wow!

What can I say ? I have always admired you for your way with words and your mastery over the English language....and the way you described your harrowing experience really captures the situation vividly and I can just picture in my mind's eye what you must have gone through. I hope to read more of your submissions in the Guardian...please do let me know when you expect to submit your next article.

  7. Congratulations!

Many thanks for posting the link to your wonderful article. I was all geared up to secure the paper version on the 5th! So we would have been very disappointed to miss it. When we read it we found it both powerful and moving.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Are you tempted to pen something else?

Also loved the photo - I hope they've let you have some shots from the photoshoot.

    Lots of love,

  11. Hi

I read your Guardian article with interest; I had not realised how bad the fire had been - you now have smoke alarms installed I'm sure.

    Best wishes,
